“Inheritance” a poem

Inheritance

Shattered dreams scattered on the floor
Alongside the shards of broken hearts
the ghosts of smiles wander here
In our broken home

To the house we inherited,
I’m sorry for your damage and neglect
I’m sorry you were carelessly lived in
Occupied with emptiness

Come and dance with me love
Let our tracks sweep the muck aside
Documenting this dance
On the groaning floorboards

Let us imagine her new
And clean. And safe.
Lively blood now courses through this house
Tinting cheeks pink, that hurt from smiling

We will wipe the dust from the windows
Taking note of that special hour of the day
Where the sun beams through them just right
